Two individuals were arrested in Mombasa County by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers for allegedly impersonating Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) officials.
The suspects, Tabitha Kwena and Wycliffe Nyamanya, reportedly inspected alongside uniformed police officers, claiming to check goods for compliance and arresting traders for selling expired products.
The EACC revealed that the suspects misled the police into believing they were legitimate KEBS officers.

They introduced themselves as consumer protection officers from a fraudulent entity called ‘Multi-Works and Rights Enforcement,’ demanding bribes between Ksh.20,000 and Ksh.50,000 from shop owners.
Preliminary investigations suggest the duo has conducted similar extortion schemes across different regions. Kwena, in particular, had been arrested earlier for similar activities in Kakamega County, again posing as law enforcement.
The suspects are currently held at Central Police Station Mombasa and are expected to face charges in the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court.
The EACC warns that the 'Multi-Works and Rights Enforcement agency falsely claims to conduct criminal investigations, inspect stock, and ensure compliance with business regulations, licenses, and tax obligations.
