The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has addressed public concerns following the arrest of a senior Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official, Caroline Sabiri Manyange, for allegedly forging academic documents.

EACC reported that Manyange, Manager for Boundaries Delimitation, forged a Master of Arts (Population Studies) degree from the University of Nairobi, dated May 9, 2004, which she used to gain a promotion at IEBC. Despite her name appearing on the graduation list, EACC clarified that she never officially graduated due to an unresolved disciplinary issue involving research funds.

Manyange allegedly created a fake degree certificate, which she later used to enroll in a PhD program and secure a promotion at IEBC, earning her over Ksh. 37 million in salary and benefits. The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges of forgery and presenting a false document.

EACC emphasized that her earnings amount to "proceeds of crime" and plans to seek recovery of the funds. The commission also highlighted that over 2,000 government officials are currently facing similar cases of academic certificate forgery, either in court or under investigation.
