Police officers arrested Fredrick John Mwenda, a suspect in a string of robberies in Buuri East, Meru County.
On Friday, police stormed Mwenda's hideaway in Maili Tano village, Ruiri Rwarera, after receiving a tip from locals.
During the search, cops discovered a sterling assault rifle with a missing buttstock and a short barrel.
In addition, they discovered 18 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition and a magazine wrapped in a nylon bag hidden in a laundry basin.
Mwenda is currently being detained and awaiting a court hearing.
