Shock has engulfed Ibwichina village in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County after villagers set a 47-year-old man accused of killing his wife ablaze.
The suspect, Sylvester Matika, allegedly killed his 40-year-old wife, sparking outrage among locals who subsequently set him and his homestead on fire.
According to Vincent Arambe Lusala, a resident, Matika moved to the village several years back amid rumors that he had fled his previous home due to a possible link to another relative's murder.

Lusala explained that the community's decision to burn Matika’s belongings was part of a traditional "cleansing ritual" believed to remove the curse associated with kin slayings.
Local authorities have since launched investigations and cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
The bodies of both the suspect and his wife were transferred to Kakamega County Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations.
