Residents of the Bugula neighborhood in Budalangi, Busia County, descended on a suspected notorious thief, leaving him for dead.
Area police chief Isaiah Mose said the 40-year-old, who has already been linked to several theft offenses, was suspected of stealing from a business with two accomplices who escaped.
He was freed this year from Korinda jail after serving a five-year term, according to Mose.
The suspect was discovered with rice and maize flour packages, among other stolen things.
His body was transferred to the Port Victoria Hospital mortuary.
