Police are hunting for a Miraa driver who was involved in a road accident at Ngurubani along the Mwea-Embu highway.
The incident claimed the lives of two children, aged 12 and 7, who were riding a motorbike.
Mwea-East Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Jarso reported that the accident occurred when a speeding Miraa vehicle heading toward Nairobi attempted to overtake another vehicle.

The driver lost control while navigating spikes placed by the Kirinyaga County government to collect cess, hitting the children.
"The 12-year-old boy died instantly, while the younger child succumbed to injuries at Mwea Mission Hospital," Jarso stated. The Miraa driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle approximately two kilometers away.
Residents of Ngurubani, led by David Mwangi, voiced outrage, highlighting the ongoing danger posed by reckless miraa drivers. “Miraa drivers have been violating traffic rules for as long as I can remember. Why is nothing being done?” Mwangi lamented.
The victims were identified as residents of the Kithogondo slum in Ngurubani town. The older child attended Ngurubani Primary School, while the younger attended Thiba Primary School.
Local leader Peter Murunguru called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to curb the impunity of miraa drivers, who he said have caused numerous deaths and injuries over the years.
Commander Jarso warned miraa drivers sternly, urging them to adhere to speed limits and prioritize safety along the busy Mwea-Embu highway.
