Police in Kitale are searching for a female suspect accused of fatally stabbing a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student during an altercation.

The victim, 25-year-old Benedict Kiptoo, was a final-year student at KMTC’s Kitale campus and was set to graduate soon. The incident occurred in Kibomet, a suburb of Kitale, where he was reportedly stabbed on the left side of his neck.

The suspect, identified as Mercy Masika, also known by her nickname Nancy Faiza, is believed to have been Benedict's girlfriend.

According to Dr. Evans Letting, who attended to the victim, Benedict succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss. “We did everything possible to stabilize him, but his condition deteriorated quickly,” Dr. Letting explained.

Benedict’s family has been left heartbroken by the tragedy. His mother, Gladys Kipkorir, has called on authorities to expedite the search for the suspect and deliver justice. “We demand justice for my son. The police must act swiftly,” she said.

Japheth Kipkorir, the victim’s uncle, echoed her plea, stressing the need for accountability in the case.

Trans Nzoia Deputy Police Commander Selasio Murethi confirmed the incident, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing. “We are actively pursuing the suspect and are confident she will be brought to justice,” Murethi stated.

The county’s Health Executive, Sam Ojwang, condemned the killing and urged society to take a stronger stance against gender-based violence.

Psychologist Vincent Agolla also addressed the issue, advising couples on healthier conflict resolution methods to avoid such tragic outcomes.

The incident highlights the ongoing fight against gender-based violence, coinciding with global campaigns advocating for its prevention.
