Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning, and Housing, Janet Kosgei, was arrested on Wednesday evening by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives over allegations of extorting the public in exchange for services.
The arrest followed a raid at her office in Eldoret by EACC officers from the North Rift Regional Office, acting on multiple complaints from the public regarding corruption.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi revealed that Kosgei allegedly demanded bribes ranging from Ksh.100,000 to Ksh.300,000 for services related to land matters. “The suspect is accused of creating a practice of demanding to oversee and approve all service requests, even those outside her jurisdiction, and requiring facilitation fees from those seeking assistance,” Ngumbi said.

During the operation, two county enforcement officers, Sergeants Geoffrey Lang’at and Jeremiah Kipkemoi, were also apprehended for attempting to obstruct the arrest. A scuffle reportedly broke out as the duo tried to attack the EACC detectives, but they were subdued and detained.
The three suspects were initially held at Eldoret Central Police Station before being transferred to the EACC North Rift Regional Offices for further processing and statement recording.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
