At the start of a new year, many people seek divine intervention by visiting sacred places to pray and fast. Such was the case for Beth Muthoni Watuku, a 44-year-old single mother from Kagumoini village in Gatundu South.

Tragically, Beth was found dead on January 18, 2025, at the Kimunyu shrine caves. She had left her home on January 16 to pray and fast, hoping for a breakthrough in her life, but mysteriously went missing.

Her body was discovered with her head forcibly wedged between rocks, her jaw injured, and evidence of blunt force trauma. Nearby, empty bottles containing unidentified fluids were found, suggesting she may have been drugged before being killed.

The shrine, a well-known site for prayer and worship, has sparked questions about how such a horrific crime could occur in such a sacred space. Typically frequented by people around the clock, the circumstances of her isolation and the absence of others at the time remain deeply puzzling. The community is now demanding answers and justice for the brutal murder of Beth Muthoni Watuku.
