Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have apprehended three police officers accused of extorting money from motorists and civilians in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

The suspects, Corporal Oscar Serem Biwott, Constable Simon Kiplagat Nyunyutik, and Constable Edwin Benedict Mubweka, were caught in the act on Wednesday morning at Globe Cinema Roundabout. Within just two hours, they had allegedly collected Ksh.48,250 in bribes.

The officers, who are attached to the Central Police Station, were immediately taken to the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre for questioning.

According to EACC, multiple complaints had been lodged by motorists, boda boda riders, and other public members regarding police officers extorting money under the pretext of enforcing traffic laws. After conducting thorough investigations, the agency confirmed the allegations.

The three officers are currently being held at Kilimani Police Station as they await formal charges.
