Jhonatan Acosta was found on Sunday covered in bruises and wounds and severely dehydrated and malnourished after spending weeks in the jungle. He claims he was separated from his colleagues as they hunted for gold and diamonds in a lagoon.
While speaking to a local radio station, Jhonatan Acosta says that he had to fight off bears at night after they tried to kill him and that it was daylight when he noticed that he had killed one of them.
He claims that he used his rifle's bullets when he shot in the air to draw the interest of any rescue workers who might have been nearby. Acosta also claims to have come in contact with several other dangerous animals, such as jaguars, which he says opted to "ignore" him.
He was rescued after his family organised a search party to find him in the dense forest. Acosta is currently being treated at a local hospital.
