A man in Luweero, Uganda, is being prosecuted for allegedly planning with his mistress to pay off a doctor to perform a surgical procedure that would kill the mother of his four children.

According to reports, Mr Friday Musoke and Ms Enid Kanyonyozi approached Dr Onesmus Bainomugisha in his clinic, intending to use medical procedures to kill the doctor's wife in exchange for a payment of Ush.5 million (Ksh.174,000).

According to the local daily Daily Monitor, the doctor blew the couple's plan after catching them making their proposal.

According to reports, the couple sought to clear out any suspicion from the woman's family because hiring assassins to kill her may lead to an inquiry and arrests.

"I felt a strong desire to rescue the life of this mother by all means, including alerting the authorities, in addition to acting professionally. Since they were already determined to have the woman killed, I was aware that if I just sent the suspects away, they might find another way to carry out their purpose, Bainomugisha told the court on Monday.

As the talks progressed, he was relaying information to the commander of the Luweero District Police to Chief Magistrate Mariam Nalwanga.

The doctor added, "I asked Musoke why he wanted to kill his wife and why he had selected the medical procedure and not any other means, including using the pistol during our talk, which I secretly filmed.

According to the article, Musoke also claimed in the taped conversation that his wife had turned their four children against him and made his life difficult by "seizing" all of his authority as the family's head.

"I also asked him about his friendship with Enid Kanyonyozi and how confident he was that she wouldn't tell anyone about the arrangement. Musoke said that he had confidence in Kanyonyozi," added Bainomugisha.

According to court records, Kanyonyozi showed up at Global Medical Centre on December 29, 2022, to deliver the 500,000 Ugandan shillings that represented the first instalment.

On December 30, 2022, Musoke called the doctor to inform him that he had chosen chloroform as the drug he would use to put his wife to sleep so he could take her to the hospital to finalize the transaction.

Soon after picking up the drug, the Police Flying Squad was informed, and Mr Musoke was apprehended as he arrived to complete the murder plot.
