A Kes32 million consignment of illicit cigarettes has been impounded by a multi-agency team of detectives based at the Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit.

Before conducting a raid, the undercover team pretended to be prospective customers at a residence.

Over 20,000 cigarette packets, fake stamps, and empty cigarette cartons were all included in this shipment.

At the Muthaiga police station, one person was apprehended and taken into custody.

Before being charged in court, the suspect is assisting authorities with their investigations.

The DCI estimates that smuggled cigarettes resulted in a total tax loss of Kes18 million.
