A father has been detained by officers from the Wanguru police station in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County, on suspicion of defiling his two and a half-year-old girl.

According to reports, the mother of the child, who had a disagreement with her husband at the time of the incident, left the child behind.

The toddler's pleas were answered by Kiumbu village residents, but the father was able to flee. He was soon apprehended by the furious locals who were baying for his blood.

After having him frog marched to the Kimbimbi dispensary, they confined him in a room before summoning the police.

Police responded after receiving information from the public, according to Mwea East OCPD James Mutua, who confirmed the event.

The two and a half-year-old was being treated at Kimbimbi Sub-County Hospital, where a medical assessment confirmed that she had been defiled, according to Mutua.
