The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has obtained CCTV footage showing how a Ruiru-based man dumped his lover's body after allegedly killing her in a domestic fight.

On April 18, 2023, the bones of Ryspa Ndunge were discovered in a suitcase outside a rental building in the Gatongora region of Ruiru, Kiambu County.

According to police, the deceased's lover, Morris Njuguna (28), planned to murder her on April 17 before disposing of her body.

Ndunge worked as a cashier at a prominent nyama choma café in Kamakis, while Njuguna also worked as a chef there.

According to police, because of their jobs, Njuguna would arrive home far earlier than his partner, who is said to have consistently come home in the early morning hours following her shifts.

"This did not sit well with Morris, who suspected that all of that time was spent on other suspicious activities rather than balancing the day's sales," the DCI stated.

"This became the basis of endless disputes in their new union, and on April 17, 2023, the argument developed into a fight, resulting in the deceased's death, after she arrived past 3 am."

Despite murdering his lover, Njuguna allegedly returned to work the following day as usual, claiming that Ndunge had decided to leave her job.

Even though the pair had only been living together for five months before the incident, Njuguna said that he and Ndunge would later move into a new residence, the location of which he did not give to his coworkers.

Njuguna reportedly stopped by a neighbourhood kiosk after leaving work to go home and bought a sack to dispose of the victim's body.

"He placed Ndunge's body in a travel suitcase before covering it with the sack," the DCI explained.

"After carrying the lifeless body disguised as luggage for one kilometre, the suspect disposed of it outside the entry gate to a rental building before departing."

At 9:35 pm, CCTV footage from the Leased building captured Njuguna dumping the deceased's body.

After discovering the body, the proprietor of the rental premises contacted officers at Gatongora Police Station.

Njuguna was apprehended on April 21, 2023, by investigators who took statements from him and witnesses.

Francis Chege (32), his cousin, was also nabbed by investigators in Mukuyu, Murang'a County when GPS linked him to the victim's phone, which he said was provided to him by Njuguna.

"The main culprit also led detectives to the shop where he purchased the sack used for hiding the suitcase carrying the deceased's body," the DCI stated.

Njuguna remains detained for arraignment when he is expected to face murder charges.
