On Monday, seven bodies were discovered in the US state of Oklahoma during a police hunt for two missing youths, according to US media.

The victims were unknown, and authorities did not disclose whether they were the missing 14- and 16-year-old children, who were observed with a convicted sex offender, according to The New York Times.

Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice told the media that authorities had called off their hunt for the kids after the bodies were discovered in Henryetta.

"We believe we found everything we were looking for this morning," Rice said, adding that the matter was being treated as a homicide.

Rice told the Tulsa World that officials suspected two of the seven bodies discovered were those of the missing girls.

According to the newspaper, the bodies were discovered on the property of registered sex offender and convicted rapist Jesse L. McFadden.

The two girls were last seen in Henryetta around 1:22 a.m. (0622 GMT). They were potentially riding in a white Chevrolet Avalanche with McFadden, 39, according to a missing persons notice filed by the state highway patrol earlier Monday.

According to the Times, he was slated to stand trial in Muskogee County on Monday on various offences, including "child obscenity and inciting sexual conduct with a minor using technology."

McFadden's arrest warrant was issued after he failed to appear in court on Monday morning.
