Ten police officers from a Kampala, Uganda station were imprisoned after thieves they captured disclosed that the money they listed as recovered was not even half of what they took.

The Daily Monitor reports that criminals snatched $110,000 and Euro700 from a Burundi national after he exited a currency bureau in the Makindye district, causing the victim to drop unconscious.

Good Samaritans assisted the victim in regaining consciousness, and one claimed to have reported the incident to a police informer.

However, the criminal intelligence agents are believed to have not alerted their superiors about the occurrence and instead went on their own to track down the thieves.

The authorities are believed to have tracked the robbers down to the Masajja area and recovered the cash. However, they only reported finding $20,000 and Euro 500.

The suspects who were apprehended and detained blew the cops' cover, claiming they had revealed less than half of what they had taken from their hideout.

The officers were reportedly imprisoned for 48 hours at Katwe police station - where the criminals were being kept - before being released on bond pending investigations.

As investigations continue, the officers' homes will be examined in an attempt to collect the cash balance, according to a police spokesman.
