He started by fighting banditry in his home county Tharaka Nithi when he was a senator. Kithure Kindiki is now the Interior Cabinet Secretary and is faced with the task of fighting banditry across the country.
The professor has also been actively advocating for policy changes to address the root causes of banditry. During his tenure as senator of Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki called for increased investment in education, job creation, and infrastructure development in Tharaka Nithi. The now interior CS argued that these are the long-term solutions to the problem of banditry.
Kindiki's efforts have not gone unnoticed, both locally and nationally. He has received recognition from various organizations and institutions for promoting peace and security in Tharaka Nithi. In 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded Kindiki the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) in recognition of his contributions to the country.

Banditry is a major problem in Kenya today, especially in the Northern part. It is a challenge to the CS. Since he has done it in Tharaka Nithi for years, it is with all hopes that Kithure will manage to win the battle against banditry. The only question in the minds of Kenyans is whether the Interior CS will manage to end banditry in Kenya.
The CS has been meeting with leaders of the affected regions to see how the banditry menace can be dealt with.
On Monday 5, November 2022 Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki met with Garissa's elected leaders led by Governor Nathif Jama and Senator Abdulkadir Haji in a continuation of consultative approaches to seeking long-lasting solutions to security challenges in Garissa.
The morning meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police (IG) Japhet Koome who was accompanied by the head of the General Service Unit (GSU). The General Service Unit has been playing been critical role in ensuring that sanity and harmony return back return crime invested capital following the many unwanted cases relating to security.
The Cabinet Secretary went to Twitter to confirm how the meeting went by.
Reportedly, the Cabinet Secretary revealed the meeting discussed security and the situation in Garissa which involved a wave of crime and cattle rustling a thing that was not good for the people of Garissa.
The leaders pledged to support the government in ensuring that security returns to the volatile area of Garissa and its environs.
The leaders present included the area governor Nathif Adan Jama together with members from Azimio-OKa and Kenya Kwanza.
Security has been a major issue in specific areas of the country. These areas are Kapendo, Laikipia, and Garissa among many others.
