Laikipia County police have increased their efforts to combat illegal brew. The most recent crackdown occurred at Likii village in Nanyuki, where officers seized 30 litres of chang'aa and more than 300 litres of Kangara used to manufacture the unlawful brew.
Martin Kariuki, the area chief, stated that the brewers had altered their tactics and places multiple times to escape being apprehended by authorities but that their time was up.
However, he criticised judges for is suing moderate fines, resulting in suspects being released only to continue with the illegal trade.
According to Laikipia police chief John Nyoike, the crackdown on illicit brew stretches throughout Laikipia, and the trade has so far been lucrative in Laikipia West.

He praised the judiciary for its cooperation in ensuring offenders are charged promptly. According to Nyoike, the fines were sufficient to deter numerous residents from restarting their trade.
