Police in Uganda detained a lady who was allegedly seen on tape forcing her four-year-old stepson to consume his faeces.

Esther Nabirye, 26, was caught on Monday after the video, which had already gone viral, sparked public outrage, causing authorities to intervene.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed the arrest, saying Nabirye is now in police custody, and accusations of child cruelty have been filed against her.

He also praised the neighbours for filming the woman and criticizing the horrific behaviour, which he called brutal and barbaric.

"As we speak, she (Nabirye) is in our custody at Jinja Central Police Station, and we have opened a case against her for child torture and abuse." "We want to thank the neighbors because we were able to move in very quickly, which was a brave act," he said.

Spokesperson Enanga also stated that they believe there may be more cases of violence against minors and are investigating the subject.

He also promised that the minor will be transferred to an emergency-protected shelter and receive the appropriate care.
