Residents of Lumakanda village in Kakamega county were furious after learning that a cow taken from a resident's homestead was in the possession of a police officer.
They jumped on the officer, accusing him of fleeing with the animal while utilizing police resources.
On Thursday, Morgan, a boda boda rider, said he saw the police officer unloading the cow from a police truck and carrying it to a creek. He notified people because the victim had raised the alarm about his stolen cow.
They discovered the police washing the defecated cow and truck.

The mob attacked him, but he was rescued and taken to the police station.
Eileen Burudi, a Lumakanda village resident, told Wananchi Reporting that cattle theft has become common.
"Cases are reported, but there is no action taken," she explained.
Officers from the Lumakanda police station did not comment on the incident when the story was published.
