On Tuesday night, four suspected thugs were shot dead in Kilifi's Takaungu district, and a stolen police AK47 gun was seized.

The thugs had been linked to a string of armed robberies in Machakos, Mombasa, and Kwale counties in recent months.

Based on the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), on July 27, 2021, the group disarmed a police officer. It staged a bank heist at Equity Bank in Matuu, Machakos County, taking an undetermined quantity of money with them.

"The AK-47 assault rifle serial number KE KP 5527115 recovered from a police officer during the Matuu Equity bank robbery was loaded with only seven rounds of 7.62-x39 calibre." Two motorbikes, a Boxer KMFS 631T and a Haogin KMEF 182P, red and used as getaway vehicles by the suspects, were also impounded," claimed the DCI.

"In over ten armed robberies, the thugs terrorized Kenyans with brazen attacks, some staged during the day, targeting Mpesa shops and other business establishments in Mombasa and Kwale counties."

The DCI identified the two suspects as Festus and Tsuma Ndoro, who were on their way to Kilifi town to perpetrate more crimes before being apprehended.
