On Monday, three suspects, including a man and his wife, were charged at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi for allegedly attempting to export ants.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) charged Martin Nyota, his wife Rose Wairimu, and postal corporation employee Eunice Muthoni with attempting to transport harvester ants worth Sh300,000 to China and France without permission.

The suspects were charged with five counts of dealing with live wildlife species when they appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku.

They were freed after posting a Ksh—50,000 cash bail and denying the accusations.

The accused were discovered possessing the ants at their Gilgil house, and the prosecution informed the court.
