Police in Bomet County have detained a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murdering his father and injuring his mother after being denied money to purchase a motorcycle.
Victor Langat, the suspect, is accused of hitting his mother and killing his 55-year-old father with a piece of wood after the latter attempted to rescue the mother at their home in Cheptagum, Sotik sub-county.
According to Baleek sub-location Assistant Chief Wesley Langat, the suspect wanted a share of the proceeds from his parents' sale of a plot of land to buy a motorcycle for himself.

Langat became irritated after his parents refused his desire, so he picked up a piece of wood and beat his mother.
She managed to escape while moaning in agony, and when his father tried to help, he was struck with the same wood and perished on the spot.
Neighbours who heard the disturbance hurried to the site, held the culprit, and handed him over to authorities. The suspect is being held at the Sotik Police Station.
The village chief said that the suspect is a drug addict with a history of criminal activity. the body of the father was sent to the Kapkatet Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem as burial plans are underway.
