Residents of Sumba village in Migori County's Nyatike Constituency are concerned about baboon invasions in their homes and killing their livestock.
The village, surrounded by two massive hills known locally as Mwarache and Kithemanguke, has been plagued by baboons for decades. This caused the inhabitants to name one of the hills, Kithemanguke, a Suba word that means 'beating baboons'.
Locals told Wananchi Reporting they couldn't keep rare chickens and goats in their homes because the baboons ate them.
A local teacher said that The baboons frequently invade homes near the hills to attack and eat baby goats and chicken. He added that Families cannot keep poultry and goats because baboons will feed on them.
He said that Baby baboons invade homes for food, especially during droughts. There have also been numerous reports of baboons ambushing children on their way home from the store and stealing food from shopping bags.

Baboons, as primates, may consume anything from grass to meat, so they are sometimes called "opportunistic feeders."
The hills are fairly rocky, with extensive tunnels that drop into the lake's bottom. The baboons spend their days foraging and eating whatever they see on these hills.
Residents are asking kenya wildlife to intervene and restore harmony in the community.
