Police on Tuesday intercepted more than 1,000 rolls of bhang which is estimated at Kes 250,000, in Bondo town, Siaya County.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Bondo sub-county police commander Robert Aboki says the bhang was to be transported to Mombasa from Bondo and confiscated at a Mombasa-bound bus's booking office.
He claimed that the shipment, which contained 1,089 rolls of marijuana, was left at the booking office when the bus agent became intrigued and checked the luggage, only to discover that it contained marijuana.
“The booking agent who was at the Dreamliner bus desk was suspicious of what was in the sacks,” Aboki said.
According to the police chief, the agent decided to alert the authorities, who went to the booking office and verified that it was a shipment of marijuana.
He claimed that after his men brought the two sacks to the police station and unpacked them, they discovered 1,089 rolls of marijuana.
Although investigations have already started to identify the owner, officers have not yet made any arrests because the suitcase owner had not yet arrived when the bhang was discovered.
