According to the Iranian Judiciary, it executed five men by hanging on Wednesday after convicting them of gang-raping a woman in the northwest of the country in 2022.

"Five men who had kidnapped and raped a woman in the city of Marand in May 2022 were executed today (Wednesday)," the judiciary's Mizan Online website announced.

Without going into further detail, Mizan stated that the guys were involved in other crimes when they were detained four days after the gang rape in the region of East Azerbaijan.

Iran killed three men last month after they were found guilty of raping victims after seducing them into visiting a phoney cosmetic surgery business.

In late 2021, Mizan reported that they had been found guilty of planning several instances of sexual assault in the southern province of Hormozgan.

Amnesty International, a human rights organisation, claims Iran hangs more people than any other country save China and that at least 582 people were executed by hanging last year, the most since 2015.
