A former Mama Lucy Hospital employee, Fred Makallah, was on Wednesday convicted of child trafficking in 2020.

Trial Magistrate Esther Kimilu relied on evidence showing the accused negotiating on the cost of three children in video evidence tabled in court.

However, the magistrate acquitted his co-accused, Selina Awuor, for lack of evidence.

Both faced a second charge of child neglect.

The magistrate determined that Awuor, a colleague, was unaware of the events surrounding the deal to sell the three kids to Rose and a whistleblower.

Eighteen witnesses were called by the prosecution, who did not link Awuor to the deal.

Before the mitigation hearing on September 26, the court ordered a probation officer to draft a pre-sentence report.

Both have been held in custody pending verdict.
