A 17-year-old Ugandan teenager accused of trafficking over 170 Ugandan job seekers to kenya has been detained by the police.

According to sources, the teenager was operating as an agent for her sister, who is associated with a phony company in Kenya called Humble Company.

Reports indicate that he had recruited as many young people as possible who were interested in getting a job in kenya.

Some recruits stated they had to pay a price of Ksh.3,901 or 100,00 Ugandan shillings, and others Ksh.1,950, equivalent to 50,000 Ugandan shillings, before being lodged in a home in Wakiso District, Uganda, awaiting transit to Kenya.

According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the kid pleaded responsibility and will be prosecuted with 170 charges of human trafficking.

"Upon interrogation, he admitted that he wanted to extort money from the victims using the name Humble Company in Kenya as a cover up. There was no connection with the company and the job advert for waiters, waitresses, coffee parkers and supermarket attendants in Kenya was fake," he said, as quoted by Daily Monitor.

The arrest of the juvenile comes after the arrest earlier this month of his accomplice, a 28-year-old woman who worked as the agent. The young people allegedly have been housed at the woman's home.

Her arrest came when neighbors were concerned about the many young people staying in the residence who spoke different languages, indicating they were not from the area.

The 17-year-old is being held at the Kakiri police station as authorities investigate further.
