The next elections will see Kenyan singer Kevin Kioko, better known by his stage name Bahati, announcing his intention to run for governor.

He informed the students that, to get his degree while getting ready for the elections, he would attend Zetech University while performing there.

Though the "Adhiambo" hitmaker hasn't stated clearly which county he wants to run in, there are rumors that the young artist is planning to challenge Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja in 2027.

"Nilianguka MP lakini juu na simama governor nakuja hapa kufanya degree! (I failed to clinch the MP seat I was vying for, but now that I'm vying as a governor, I will come here to get my degree.) declared the father of five.

"Mnataka nikuje Zetech? Wangapi mnataka nikuje Zetech?" (Do you guys want me to come to Zetech? How many here want me to join the university?) proudly asked the performer as he excitedly started singing and enthralled the audience.

Bahati's political career vanished as soon as it began.

The musician lost the fight to run on a Jubilee ticket for the Mathare MP seat in the August 2022 elections.

In the fiercely contested battle, he finished a distant third behind Billian Ojiwa of the UDA and incumbent MP Anthony Oluoch of the ODM.

Claims of favoritism in the Azimio camp dogged the race as Bahati sobbed during a press conference about being passed over for the Jubilee ticket in favor of Oluoch of the ODM.

Bahati persevered in the face of the challenges and made it to the polls, finishing third with 8,166 votes, 8,166 behind Oluoch, who won the seat with 28,098 votes. With 16,912 votes, Ojiwa won.

Following the August elections, Bahati left the Jubilee party and joined President William Ruto's UDA.

He apologized to the President and said he knew why the President was disappointed in him.
