David Mathenge, also called Nameless, has openly discussed his difficulties when first dating Wahu Kagwi.

The renowned artist, a father of three, got to know Wahu when they were both students.

In a recent episode of the Mic Cheque Podcast, Nameless reflected on their early relationship and the difficulties he faced, which made him doubt their bond.

“When I just hooked up with wifey (Wahu), like in the first three months, too many negative things were happening. I was like, hey ‘Huyu dem ni bad luck, nampenda lakini how is it possible that in three months this sh*t has happened.'”

One particular incident stuck out: Nameless and Wahu were strolling hand in hand across campus when they came across some men.

One of the men slapped Nameless without any reason or warning.

Nameless tried to maintain his composure and look unfazed in the face of the unexpected attack.

As he described the tense moment, he revealed:

“I removed my specs, put them in my back pocket, and left the rest to God. The gang thought I had a knife, which scared them a bit. Realizing what was happening, I started daring them to fight me with my hand still in my pocket.”

Thankfully, rugby players who knew the artist saved Nameless and Wahu.

The difficulties continued, as Nameless recounted another instance in which he was mistaken for a rioter by an officer-filled GSU truck.

Despite these obstacles, Wahu was adamant about sticking by her boyfriend and would frequently check in on him during trying times.

When Nameless thought back to those early days, he made this funny comment:

“I used to tell her to stay in her room when there are riots, but she is like, ‘Oh my God, there is too much drama, I need to come and check on my boyfriend.’ This girlfriend of mine is just problems.”

Nameless and Wahu's love persevered through thick and thin, and today they are one of Kenya's most beloved celebrity duos.

After eighteen years of marriage, they had Nyakio, Tumiso, and Shiro as their three children.
