Maria Branyas Morera, who holds the Guinness World Record for the oldest living person, turned 117.

Maria, born on March 4, 1907, in San Francisco, USA, had her record validated in January 2023 after the death of France's 118-year-old Lucile Randon.

According to Guinness World Records, Maria "returned to Spain with her family when she was eight and settled in the Catalonia region, where she has lived her entire life."

Maria has spent the previous 23 years at a nursing home in Catalonia. According to Eva Carrera Boix, the director of Maria's care home, Maria was overjoyed with the congratulations she received for turning a year older.

"She is happy to be able to celebrate this special day intimately with her family and colleagues, and wishes everyone a happy Monday," Eva told Guinness World Records.

Maria is claimed to be in good health, save for hearing and mobility issues. Her 80-year-old daughter manages her social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Maria characterizes herself on the handle: "I'm very old, but not an idiot." She has approximately 16,000 followers.
