Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Kenyan President William Ruto have jointly announced a plan to extend the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Kampala. Museveni held discussions with Ruto at State House, culminating in an agreement on the initiative.

Museveni, currently on a state visit to Kenya, arrived yesterday accompanied by numerous senior Ugandan officials. They are scheduled to stay in the country for the next two days.

The Kenyan government constructed the Standard Gauge Railway between 2013 and 2017, extending from Mombasa to Naivasha. This railway aims to enhance transportation connectivity among neighboring countries in the East African region.

President Ruto emphasized that the Standard Gauge Railway will significantly enhance the movement of people and goods across the region's borders. Meanwhile, Yoweri Museveni disclosed his pursuit of funding to finalize the project.

Kenya and Uganda have upheld robust diplomatic relations for numerous years, collaborating across various sectors to mutual advantage. Both nations remain dedicated to fortifying these diplomatic ties.

Yoweri Museveni presently serves as the President of the Republic of Uganda, a position he has held for over three decades. Throughout his extended tenure, he has spearheaded numerous development initiatives within Uganda.

President William Ruto is focused on enhancing the regional transport network and has successfully secured funding from multiple development partners to advance the project.
