Celebrated American comedian Dave Chappelle is scheduled to perform in Kenya on Wednesday, May 29.
The event information was posted on the social media accounts of Stand-Up Comedy Collective Punchline Nairobi, and tickets sold out in minutes.
The National Museum of Kenya's Louis Leakey Auditorium will host Chappelle's show. The gates open at 7 p.m., with the concert beginning at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the show cost ksh 7000, and organizers have implemented a regulation prohibiting the use of phones during the show.
“Upon arrival, all phones and smart watches will be secured in Yondr pouches that will be unlocked at the end of the show. Guests maintain possession of their phones throughout the night, and if needed, may access their phones at designated Yondr unlocking stations in the lobby,” Punchline Comedy Club notes in a caption of the show’s poster.
“Anyone caught with a cell phone in the venue will be immediately removed. We appreciate your cooperation in creating a phone-free viewing experience.” it added
Chappelle is notorious for having a no-phone policy during his gigs, which is done to safeguard the comedian's work and prevent it from being filmed and circulated without authorization.
According to Forbes Magazine, such laws are necessary because cell phones may cause excessive distraction, copyright infringement, content abuse, and misunderstanding during live performances. Phone-free events result in fewer intellectual property issues, better performances and experiences, and more comic development.
