Even after more than 30 years, Ice Cube's "No Vaseline" record is still the greatest scathing diss track ever made.

Ice Cube's explosive diss album "No Vaseline," which targeted his former N.W.A. group members and their manager Jerry Heller, was released more than thirty years ago. Nevertheless, Cube himself confirmed this fact during a recent performance, marking the record as one of the most brutal diss records ever.

The competitive spirit among hip-hop fans worldwide may have been rekindled by the recent feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, as classic diss tracks like "Ether" and "Hit 'Em Up" have been gaining traction again. Thus, let us examine Ice Cube's "No Vaseline" record for a moment and try to figure out why it has become known as the greatest diss track ever.

There are a ton of people who could claim the title of greatest diss record ever. At the California Roots Festival, Ice Cube took the stage to discuss why, in his own words, "No Vaseline" is still unbeaten. Cube specifically mentions classic diss tracks like 2Pac's "Hit 'Em Up," Nas' "Ether," and Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" in his discussion of the status of culture. Cube honors each of these musicians and their contributions, but he still believes that his own 1991 song is the best.

The Compton, California-born rapper Ice Cube said, "I love those songs, but 'No Vaseline' is the best diss song in the history of hip-hop," in a now-viral video. And I'll explain why: I, the MC, took out the manager and four motherf***ers. That is unbeatable." It's true that after Ice Cube released "No Vaseline" in October 1991, N.W.A. never put out another record.

Jerry Heller, the group's manager, also never achieved significant mainstream success in the music business after the song's release. It's difficult to refute Cube's reasoning, even though there were additional known internal problems that contributed to NWA's breakup in the early 1990s.

This is not the first time Ice Cube has defended his work on "No Vaseline," as evidenced by his California Roots performance. Over the years, the well-known MC who is now an actor has explained in a number of interviews and media appearances why songs like "Hit 'Em Up" just can't compete. Ice Cube claims that because 2Pac enlisted the help of his Outlawz collaborators, his groundbreaking track doesn't measure up against "No Vaseline".

Despite being extremely critical, the song had no effect on slowing down The Notorious B.I.G.'s career advancement. To achieve the iconic status of "No Vaseline," "Hit 'Em Up" needed one solo artist to completely stop his opponent's career from progressing. This just didn't happen.
