Star of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Will Smith is making a big splash in Hollywood after his post-Oscar win with the hit action-comedy sequel. Following the most recent Bad Boys film, a new report verifies that the Oscar-winning actor has landed another significant movie role.

According to Deadline, Smith will reunite with Sony Pictures on the forthcoming science fiction film Resistor, which Escape Artists is also producing and developing. Based on Daniel Suarez's 2014 novel Influx, Zak Olkewicz and Eric Singer wrote the screenplay, with Smith serving as co-producer through his Westbrook Inc. label.

We need to find out the Resistor plot details. On the other hand, Influx narrates the tale of physicist Jon Grady, who finds a tool that could reflect the gravity and change the field of physics. Grady and his team encounter resistance from the Bureau of Technological Control, a clandestine organization determined to bury the truth and stop the social unrest the new gadget might unleash in spite of this potentially historic achievement.

Grady is placed in an eerie high-tech prison with other doomed intellectuals when he rejects an offer to join the operation. After that, he forms an alliance with his fellow inmates to battle the BTC and rescue humanity from its manufactured abyss.

Will Smith's Next Movie Has Been Revealed

After receiving the Resistor screenplay, Smith was contacted by Escape Artists creatives, who thought he would be an excellent fit for the project given the early success of Ride or Die, which was released earlier this month. Shortly after Ride or Die's successful opening weekend at the box office, Smith decided to join Resistor. There is no director attached to Resistor, though behind-the-scenes discussions to land one will ramp up in the coming weeks.

In the highly anticipated fourth chapter of the critically acclaimed Bad Boys franchise, Ride or Die, starring alongside longtime collaborator Martin Lawrence, finds Smith and his co-star battling corrupt law enforcement officials as law enforcement officers. With more than $215 million earned at the box office worldwide, the Bad Boys franchise has now made more than $1 billion since its launch in 1995.

Furthermore, Ride or Die has garnered positive reviews from critics and a franchise-high audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Adil El Arbi and starring Bilall Fallah, the film marks Smith's breakthrough film success since the infamous incident in which he slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards in 2022.

Alongside Michael B. Jordan, who starred in the Black Panther and Creed movies, Smith will also feature in the highly anticipated I Am Legend sequel. Smith recently stated that the sequel is "looking good" after meeting with Jordan, but the start date of production has not been announced.

North American theaters are currently hosting the premiere of Ride or Die.
