Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was among over 500 Kenyans honored by President William Ruto on Thursday during a ceremony at State House, Nairobi, following this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens.

Sifuna received the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) award, the highest category within the Order of the Burning Spear. This award recognizes public dignitaries, professionals, and exemplary members of public service for their dedication to serving the nation.

The Order of the Burning Spear is classified into three ranks based on seniority: Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).

In addition to the Burning Spear honors, President Ruto conferred other prestigious awards, including the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW), Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH), and Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH).

Ohangla musician Prince Indah, actresses Sarah Hassan and Brenda Wairimu, were among 142 individuals awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW). This honor recognizes outstanding service to the country, often by individuals who have shown bravery or significant contributions in their respective fields.

The OGW award is also categorized into Chief, Elder, and Moran, alongside other commendations such as the Distinguished Conduct Order (DCO), Distinguished Service Medal (DSM), Silver Star, and the President’s Commendations for military and civilian divisions.

Several military officers, civilians, and professionals were recognized during the event. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja received the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH) award, the third category under the Order of the Golden Heart, along with five Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel.

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was awarded the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH), the second rank in the Order of the Golden Heart. This honor is typically reserved for senior officials, including Deputy Presidents, National Assembly and Senate Speakers, Cabinet Secretaries, First and Second Ladies, the KDF Chief of Staff, and the Head of Public Service.
