Renowned radio broadcaster Leonard Mambo Mbotela has passed away at the age of 85.

His daughter-in-law, Anne Mbotela, confirmed his passing on Friday morning following a prolonged illness. “My father-in-law has indeed passed on,” she stated.

Mbotela is survived by his wife, Alice Mwikali, and their three children: Aida Mbotela, Jimmy Mbotela, and George Mbotela.

A legendary figure in Kenyan journalism, Mbotela was best known for his iconic radio and television program Jee Huu ni Ungwana, which aired on KBC for over five decades. Launched in 1966, the show became one of Kenya’s longest-running and most influential broadcasts, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s media landscape.
