Comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has once again rallied Kenyans in support of a grieving family — this time, the family of Albert Ojwang, a young man whose untimely death has left many in shock.

Omondi recently paid a personal visit to Meshack Opiyo, Albert’s father, offering his condolences and support. Deeply moved by the family's plight, Eric launched an online appeal to raise funds for the bereaved family. The donations were to be sent directly to Meshack’s personal M-Pesa number: 0727927898 (Name: Meshack Opiyo).

The response was overwhelming. Within a short time, Meshack’s M-Pesa account reached its maximum capacity, prompting Eric to share an alternative number to keep the donations flowing. Despite this effort, some donors reported difficulties sending money, with many calling on Eric to set up a paybill number to streamline the contributions and allow more people to help.

Public voices like Hon. David Ochola urged, “Please get him a paybill, Eric,” while others praised the comedian for his hands-on approach. Lucy Ndunguh commented, “Well done, Eric. Even if you can’t afford to give, just being there for that man matters. Say a prayer with him; he’s hurting deeply.”

Albert Ojwang leaves behind a three-year-old son, and Eric’s plea to the public was heartfelt: “Let us make sure he never goes without anything. I hope he knows his father was a hero.”

Despite the emotional turmoil, Kenyans have continued to show immense generosity. However, many feel that a formal paybill account would allow Meshack and his family to receive broader and more organized financial help.

Meanwhile, Ojwang’s death continues to spark national attention and public discourse, with other headlines emerging — including commentary from Nairobi Woman Rep and claims raised by investigative journalist Jicho Pevu.
