The Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Academy announced Thursday that Rihanna would perform "Lift Me Up" from Marvel's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" during the Oscars presentation on March 12. Rihanna is coming off of her record-breaking 2023 Super Bowl Halftime performance.


Rihanna, Tems, Ludwig Göransson, and the movie's director Ryan Coogler contributed to the song "Lift Me Up." This year's Oscars have nominated the ballad for best original song, marking Rihanna's first-ever nomination.

The song "Hold My Hand," composed by Lady Gaga and BloodPop for "Top Gun: Maverick," is also up for best original song honours. "Tell It Like a Lady," "RRR," and "Everything Everywhere All at Once" is other movies with songs nominated.

Rihanna has already had a successful year. The nine-time Grammy winner announced her second pregnancy with rapper A$AP Rocky earlier this month, following the Super Bowl, where she made her first live performance in seven years.

This year's "Wakanda Forever" received the first-ever acting nomination for a Marvel movie, earning the actor Angela Bassett five Oscar nominations. For her performance of Tina Turner in the 1993 Turner biopic "What's Love Got to Do With It," Bassett received a prior acting nomination.

On Sunday, March 12, at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST, the Oscars will be televised live on ABC from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
