A group of Gatundu elders has requested the court to intervene in a 30-year-old land dispute with Kiambu Coffee Growers Cooperative.

The elders claim to have purchased the disputed 5 hectares of land in Kiambu in 1958.

According to them, some members have perished, leaving their children to fight for the contested property.

According to the elders, former President Jomo Kenyatta knew they owned the property.

They accuse Kiambu Coffee Growers of getting the land illegally. The case has been in court for more than 30 years.

Kiambu Coffee Growers Cooperative claims in court documents that it has begun leasing the site to a third party after acquiring the property.

The cooperative accuses the members of the New Kamwangi Gumba Company Limited, which includes older men and women, of interfering with property possession.
