Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has rolled out a power backup plan to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply nationwide in case of a blackout.
KPLC Managing Director Joseph Siror said the National Control Centre, domiciled at the coast, will provide an alternative power dispatch point in the event the main National Control Center fails.
Further, it will serve as a training arena to boost power system operators’ capacity and technical skills.
“Our grid is expanding rapidly with increased customer numbers and this calls for the deployment of strategic initiatives that are meant to secure and strengthen the quality of power supply.”
According to Siror, the utility firm is eager to fortify the network by renovating the current infrastructure and building new lines to give its consumers alternate supply points and reduce power interruptions.
