The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has commenced the search for a new Commissioner-General following the exit of Githii Mburu in February.
Less than eight months into his second tenure, Mburu left his position to pursue personal interests.
Rispah Simiyu, the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, is now filling the role on an interim basis.
The taxman requested applicants for the position in a notice that appeared in neighbourhood publications, with a deadline of April 25.
“The Commissioner General is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Authority, the management of its funds and for providing leadership to the Authority’s staff,” the advert read.
A Master's degree in finance, business, economics, or law will also be required of successful candidates for the position, as well as at least 15 years of experience, with 10 of those years spent in senior leadership positions in sizable public or private organisations.
“A contract of employment with an attractive and competitive package with be offered to the successful candidate. This position is on a five-year contract renewable once based on performance,” the advert read.
On the same day that Mburu's departure was made public, the KRA board replaced three of the agency's top seven managers.
Following Mburu's departure, the following executives were hired: David Kinuu, Lilian Nyawanda, and Terra Saidimu, Commissioners of Intelligence & Strategic Operations, Customs and Border Control, and respectively (Commissioner of Corporate Support Services).
Actors David Mwangi, David Yego, and Nancy Ngetich assumed their respective parts.
