John Mativo has been appointed as the new Managing Director(MD) for Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO), effective April 24, 2023.
Energy Cabinet Secretary, Davis Chirchir made the appointment, and the new MD is to serve for three years once, subject to performance and retirement age for Public Officers.
The appointment follows a successful and competitive recruitment process concluded by the Board of Directors.
He takes over from Isaac Kiva, who has been serving in the role in an acting position since January.

Kiva had succeeded Antony Wamukota, who was also serving in an acting capacity since February 2022 when Governor Fernandes Barasa resigned from the role to pursue politics.
Following Mativo’s appointment, Kiva will revert to his position as the Secretary of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy.
“John Mativo is expected to bring on board sufficient skills in leadership and management of resources, having served the Company in various capacities since 2010,” read an internal memo from the KETRACO Board Chairman.
“He has a wealth of experience and institutional historical information which is much needed to support the required leadership in designing suitable plans and strategies that will contribute to high and sustainable socio-economic development to the Country’s economy.”
Mativo holds a Doctorate in Civil Engineering from Tokyo Metropolitan University (Japan), a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from Tongji University (China), and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi.
He has over 25 years of working experience in both the public and private sectors accumulating extensive experience in research, planning, design, construction supervision and contract management for transmission infrastructure, residential houses, office blocks and marine structures.
