George Njao, the director general of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), has been put on administrative leave.
Njao was given a 30-day mandated leave of absence. This was announced by the NTSA Board Chair Aden Noor Ali announced at a press conference on April 24, so the organization could look into the troubling pattern.
According to Ali, a special committee had been formed to help with the investigations. The board has chosen Cosmas Ingeso to serve as the DG.

Additional matatus Saccos whose cars had been involved in fatal crashes in the previous 30 days had their operation permits suspended by the board.

The National Transport and Safety Authority has dismissed the licenses of four public service vehicle saccos following tragic road accidents involving some of their vehicles.
According to the board, the licenses of PSV operators involved in this month's recent occurrences have been terminated immediately.
Before they are cleared, the drivers must also pass a safety compliance examination before they are removed, according to him.
The exercise will include a roadworthiness check of all their vehicles, an assessment of driver qualifications, a driving ability examination, and evidence of full conformity with the PSV Regulations, 2014.
