Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators will increase daily bus fares by 30 per cent from July 5, following the increase in fuel prices by the Energy and POewtroleum Regulatory Authority(EPRA) last week.
According to the Matatu Owners Association chairman Albert Karakacha, the adjustment of fares will cushion the investors in the transport sector under the organisation.
A spot check by this writer at various petrol stations revealed that Petrol is retailing at Kes 195, up from Kes 179 when EPRA announced the new fuel prices.
Further, the owners stated that they are engaging Government agencies and fuel supplies to cushion the public service operators and commuters.
The increase in fuel prices comes after President William Ruto ascended the Finance Bill 2023 into law that recommended an 8% increase of fuel.
