Neymar, a soccer player, was fined 16 million reais ($3.33 million) by Brazilian officials on Monday for violating environmental laws when building his coastal property in southeast Brazil.
Local authorities first claimed late last month and then verified on Monday that the luxury project had broken the rules governing the usage and transportation of sand, rock, and freshwater sources.
A representative for Neymar declined to offer any additional insight.
On Brazil's Rio de Janeiro state's southern coast, in the village of Mangaratiba, is where he resides.

Infractions of environmental laws were committed, according to a statement released on Monday by Mangaratiba's environmental agency, "in the construction of an artificial lake at the mansion."
Along with the fine, the case will be investigated by a number of environmental control agencies, including the state civil police, environmental protection office, and local attorney general's office.
