Investigations into the tragic murder of Deka Abdinoor Gorone, found dead in an apartment in Nairobi’s Lavington area, reveal a disturbing relationship with her suspected killer, Hashim Dagane Muhumed. Hashim, who reportedly had strong romantic feelings for Deka, had twice approached her family to ask for her hand in marriage, but was rejected both times, a family member confirmed. In their culture, the formal process of "doonis" requires family consent before any marriage arrangements, but Deka’s family disapproved of Hashim.
Deka, originally from Wajir, Kenya, had moved to Nairobi, where she worked in a restaurant. Despite her family’s disapproval and friends’ concerns about Hashim’s character, Deka continued to see him in secret, sneaking out from her family home in Eastleigh to meet him.
Deka was last seen on October 21, the same day three other women were found murdered in Eastleigh and their bodies discarded across Nairobi and Machakos. Her family, worried after she missed work and failed to return home, feared she might be among the victims and searched hospitals and mortuaries to no avail.

The family reported her missing on October 24. Days later, they received a voice message from Deka, in which she claimed to have left the country, though she sounded unsure of her whereabouts. Police believe she sent the message under Hashim’s direction. Hashim also contacted a relative separately, claiming he’d been detained and needed money. When asked about Deka, he implied she had "migrated."
Throughout this period, Deka’s phone activity was erratic, going offline for long stretches and only briefly coming online to send voice messages. The situation grew increasingly suspicious as investigations linked Hashim to her disappearance, and it soon became clear that he was at the center of her ordeal.
On October 31, after an unsettling series of events, parts of Deka’s body were discovered at Langata Cemetery, bearing signs of brutal treatment. Police also found Hashim’s phone, Deka’s identification, and other belongings connected to her. Authorities have arrested a second suspect in Eldoret as investigations continue, while Hashim remains a key suspect, believed to have used chemicals in her murder. The exact motive remains unclear.
