Kenyan musician Hubert Nakitare, popularly known as Nonini, has proactively taken measures to address copyright and royalty management issues for artists in Kenya.
Nonini recently took to Instagram to showcase his interactions with prominent government figures, including Joshua Kutuny, the Kenya Copyright Board Chairman, Edward Sigei, the Executive Director, and Honorable Aisha Jumwa.
“So funny how a simple Tweet brought all these things. I'm still in shock at how that happened but we Thank God. We don't use his name randomly. Asante sana Hon Aisha Jumwa ,” wrote Nonini.
The meeting revolved around conversations regarding the performance of licensed Collective Management Organizations (CMOs), the administration of royalties utilizing the e-Citizen platform, and the potential creation of a Government-operated collective management organization.
The decision to streamline all payments through the e-Citizen platform aligns with a directive from the Presidency to improve transparency and efficiency in the collection and distribution of royalties.
This initiative is viewed as a crucial stride in safeguarding the interests of artists in Kenya, guaranteeing that they receive their due earnings.
