In many respects, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the eagerly anticipated third entry in the Beverly Hills Cop series, is a family affair.

Eddie Murphy plays a lovable rogue detective, Axel Foley, who must attempt to make amends with his estranged daughter to save her life. Murphy's real-life daughter also participates in the action, which he described as "surreal."

In one scene, Foley is taken into custody while attempting to take over a traffic cop's cute little vehicle for the obligatory pursuit. Murphy's ten children, including his daughter Bria, play the traffic cop. His newlywed son-in-law is the other police officer who tases him later.

"She’s the one that arrests me," Murphy told Today’s Al Roker, regarding his daughter. "And the other scene when I get arrested in the movie, that’s my son-in-law tasing me in the neck. It was right after they got married. It was on the set, tasing me in my neck. I was like, 'This is surreal.'"

For those keeping score at home, that means Foley has been arrested twice. He dismisses this when he reunites with Judge Reinhold's Billy Rosewood and John Ashton's John Taggart in a recreation of the classic squad car scene from Beverly Hills Cop.

Speaking of surreal, director Mark Molloy, who grew up in Australia and was a massive fan of the movies and Murphy, found it hard to believe he got to shoot the scene where the three actors were cutting up.

"I always had that image of those three guys on a stakeout in the car together; it was just imprinted in my brain," Molloy previously told Entertainment Weekly. "And then I remember sitting with the three of them in that car, and I actually happened to look around at the crew filming it. I just saw on everyone's faces, like, Oh man, this is exactly where we want to be right now."

Meanwhile, Taylour Paige from Zola plays Jane, Murphy's daughter, on screen. When Jane takes on the case of an accused police killer, she gets herself into a lot of trouble because she discovers a plot among Beverly Hills' elite. Joseph Gordon-Levitt portrays Jane's ex-partner, Det. Bobby Abbott. Although he is unable to subdue Foley, the two have numerous chances to connect and argue.

Netflix will launch Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F on July 3.
